Tiji Festival Trekking or Overland Jeep Trip 2024, Upper Mustang

Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang Dates for the year 2024 have been already confirmed!  Join us as we explore this rare and ancient Local Tibetan Buddhist Ritual at Lo Manthang, the capital town of once independent Mustang Kingdom in the Himalaya. The Tiji Festival brings together locals and tourists alike in a celebration by prayers, poojas and traditional Tibetan Monks’ dance. Learn how the ritual is performed, how it serves to bring harmony to the communities in which it takes place, and why it is an important event held every year. Discover how this festival has been passed down through the generations and how visitors and locals are able to experience its beauty and power. The event is a rare chance to capture ancient traditional ritual and cultural aspects of the Himalaya.

The three days’ Tiji ceremony begins with a procession of Lamas carrying colorful Buddhist flags throughout the town on their way to a temple where they perform puja (rituals) and chant mantras to ward off evil spirits and restore balance within society. Additionally, there are dramas performed by monks depicting stories related to Dorje Suno which symbolizes victory over adversity while also highlighting moral values found in many Tibetan tales.

Apr 27-28:           Kathmandu for permits and meeting guide

Apr 29:                  Travel to Pokhara by flight

Apr 30:                  A short flight to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni

May 01:                Trek to Chhuksang

May 02:                Trek to Syangmochen

May 03:                Trek to Ghami

May 04:                Trek to Charang

May 05-07           Lomanthang, Observe the Tiji Festival and places of interest

May 08                Return by jeep to Jomsom

May 09                 Flight to Pokhara and continue to Kathmandu (Tiji Festival Trip Ends)

May 10                Free day

May 11                 Return home, or plan more!
