This is a remote and less frequented region despite its proximity to the popular trekking route to Mt. Everest. Here, we walk trails seldom walked by Westerners. As we head ‘off the beaten track’, we experience unique cultural encounters along with the spectacular views enjoyed with other trekking destinations. The trek begins after a short mountain flight to Phaplu and a short jeep or a big jeep ride 10 (hours) from Kathmandu. Trekking starting point Pattale or Dhap is already a view point with many mountains like Mt. Everest (8850m), Makalu (8481m), Numbur (6958m) and other Himalayan peaks. From Pattale trek proceeds to Pikey Peak (4100 meters) which is one of the dramatic view points in the Himalaya. From Pikey Peak trek drops to Junbesi meeting old Everest base camp trek route and culminates back to Phaplu making a circle. This trek is full of cultural experiences with villagers and certainly great views of the mountain. The trek also can be combined with standard Everest trek heading north to Lukla.
