Manaslu Circuit Larke Pass (Larkya) Trekking

Kathamndu airport to tourist town Thamel or to your hotel is about 30 minutes on taxi. Sleeping altitude 1350 meters.

While our staff arrange permits for the restricted area of Manaslu trek, you can join a short sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. The introductory tour includes, not to miss, important tourist interest, historic and cultural sites such as Swayambhu stupa, Boudha Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square among others. This day is also for checking your gear and getting ready for the trek.

After breakfast, we start our jeep journey early in the morning. After leaving Kathmandu Valley, we enjoy views of rural villages and hills. Passing the hill town of Arughat, we follow the Budhi Gandaki river to reach Khorla Besi. Jeep journey ends here.  Altitude drop 380 meters.

The trek continues along the bank of Budhi Gandaki. Small villages and farmland along the way are very beautiful to observe. After lunch on the way at one of these charming settlements we continue trekking to Jagat. It is also the entrance to Manaslu Conservation Area. Altitude gain 530 meters.

Jagat is the entrance to the Manaslu Conservation Area and a restricted trekking area. From here, we leave the Chum Valley trail on the right and continue toward Manaslu, reaching Deng.Altitude gain 460 meters.

From Deng, we walk northwest through small villages and green landscapes. After lunch on the way, we continue trekking to Namrung. Altitude gain 770 meters.

From Namrung, we pass through Lihi and other villages as we continue gradual climbing to reach Syala. From Syala, there are beautiful views of Mount Manaslu. Local Buddhist monasteries and villages are also worth visiting. As the altitude gain today is approximately 900 meters, we stop at lunch time and have half day rest for the acclimatization.

From Syala, we walk uphill to Pungen Glacier and the sacred Pungen Monastery, an important meditation place for monks. There are stunning views of Mount Manaslu from here. After visiting the monastery and glacier, we take a short walk to Sama Gaun. Sama Gaun is a major village and the gateway for climbers to summit Mt. Manaslu. Today is another leisure during the afternoon. Altitude gain approximately 100 meters.

This rest day further helps your body adjust to high altitude and recover strength. You can also visit nearby villages, monasteries, or take a side trip to Manaslu Base Camp (4800 meters).

Today’s walk is short, easy, and mostly flat. To help with altitude adjustment and because of available lodges, we stay in Samdo. We rest for half the day. Altitude gain 275 meters.

Samdo is the last permanent village in the region. There are no villages between Samdo and Dharamsala. Dharamsala has a few basic lodges and tented camps for trekkers. The walk takes about half a day. We rest in the afternoon to prepare for the long walk tomorrow. Altitude gain 600 meters.

This is the final day of trekking. We walk downhill, passing several villages, and reach Dharapani, an important village on the Annapurna Circuit. The Manaslu Circuit trek ends here. Altitude drop 1730 meters.

Today is the most exciting and challenging day. We start early in the morning and climb uphill toward Larkya Pass for several hours. Near the pass, the trail becomes flat and reaches the top. From Larkya Pass, we descend a long way down to Bimthang. Larkya Pass is the border between the Manaslu and Annapurna regions. Bimthang is the first village in the Annapurna region. Altitude drop from the pass 1570 meters.

From Dharapani, we return to Kathmandu by jeep. Although the journey is long, we enjoy views of mountain villages and landscapes along the way.
